ENGINEERING INSIGHTS

On 15 September 2026, Gtech Infrastructure Ltd. organized a seminar in Chattogram focusing on the growing potential of solar energy in Bangladesh and the role of rooftop solar in building a cleaner, more cost-effective, and reliable energy system.
The seminar was attended by senior representatives of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB), including the Chief Engineer, Chattogram Zone, former PDB officials, as well as Executive Engineers and Assistant Engineers from the Chattogram Zone. The participation of experienced power-sector professionals provided an important platform for discussion on the opportunities and practical challenges associated with the wider adoption of solar energy.
The seminar highlighted the significant potential of solar power as Bangladesh moves toward greater energy diversification and renewable energy adoption. Rooftop solar is particularly relevant for industrial and commercial facilities because electricity generated during daylight hours can directly support daytime consumption.
With rising energy costs and the need for greater energy security, rooftop solar can help businesses reduce their dependence on conventional electricity while generating clean energy from otherwise unused rooftop space. Recent studies also identify rooftop solar as an increasingly viable solution for improving energy security and reducing carbon emissions in Bangladesh.
The discussion also comes at a significant time for Bangladesh, with the country placing greater emphasis on expanding rooftop solar and attracting private-sector participation in renewable energy.
During the seminar, Gtech Infrastructure Ltd. presented its experience and capabilities as a solar EPC company providing end-to-end renewable energy solutions. Gtech's services cover commercial and industrial rooftop solar, utility-scale solar power plants, battery energy storage systems, and hybrid solar-storage solutions.
The company has developed and implemented solar projects across Bangladesh, with its experience spanning from initial site surveys and feasibility studies through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and ongoing support.
A key part of Gtech's presentation was the availability of both CAPEX and OPEX business models, allowing customers to select an approach that suits their financial and operational requirements.
Under the CAPEX model, the customer invests in and owns the solar PV system. The customer benefits directly from the electricity generated and the resulting reduction in electricity expenditure.
Under the OPEX model, a third-party investor finances, owns, and operates the solar system installed on the customer's premises. The customer purchases the electricity generated by the system under a long-term agreement, generally without having to make the initial capital investment.
These two models provide industries and businesses with greater flexibility to adopt solar energy according to their investment capacity and long-term energy strategy.
Gtech Infrastructure Ltd. expressed its commitment to working closely with Chattogram PDB and its industrial and commercial customers to develop technically sound and economically viable rooftop solar solutions.
Through detailed site assessments, energy analysis, system design, and appropriate financing models, Gtech aims to help customers identify the most suitable solar solution for their facilities.
The seminar concluded with a shared recognition that collaboration between the power sector, private industry, and renewable energy companies can play an important role in accelerating Bangladesh's transition toward cleaner, more reliable, and cost-effective energy.
Gtech Infrastructure Ltd. looks forward to continuing its engagement with PDB, industries, and other stakeholders in Chattogram to support the expansion of rooftop solar and contribute to Bangladesh's renewable energy transition.
